Fabrangen's 36th Anniversary
Fundraising Campaign
On
the occasion of its 36th, double-chai anniversary in 2007, Fabrangen seeks to
raise $36,000 to strengthen our community’s next 36 years. The
centerpiece of the campaign is to raise funds to acquire a Torah and other
needed ritual objects, enhance our engagement in the community, and build
Fabrangen’s reserves. The components of this spending are summarized
below. Special one-time anniversary donations are being sought from each
member of (household in) the community. Notably, 50% of every donor’s
contribution will go toward the purchase of the new Torah.
New Torah ($18,000)
The Torah is the anchor of our people and center of our
community. Fabrangen’s
existing Torah has served us well, but its condition is relatively
poor. A new primary Torah for weekly and other services is in our future.
That
future can be now, and several members are examining prospective Torahs
for sale. Torahs may range from $10,000 (used) to $60,000 (top of the
line). The expectation is that Fabrangen will purchase a high-quality
used Torah.
Holy Books & Ritual Objects ($3,000)
In conjunction with acquiring
the Torah, a cover for it will be needed. Members of our community have
agreed to work with Shirley Waxman again
to ensure compatible design with our existing textile objects. Funding
is also needed to repair or replenish siddurim, acquire other texts,
and maintain such texts and objects.
Community Service ($6,000)
Our home at WES is being renovated
during our anniversary year. To contribute to the improvement of our
space, Fabrangen has offered to donate the
landscaping – expertise & design,
plants (trees, shrubbery, etc. estimated at $1,000) and labor --
for the grounds after the construction is completed. We will also
enhance
our support
for Project Hope, our emergency fund, children’s programming,
and other on-going programs serving members in and around our community.
General/Reserves
($9,000)
Fabrangen thrives on lay leadership, community involvement,
and volunteer labor. But its frugal operating expenses do add up – space
rental for weekly and holiday services, a part-time coordinator, child-care
providers,
and minimal administrative expenses. Building our reserves is vital
to navigating the ebbs and flows of our core operations.
Important Note:
The goal and above allocations were approved by the Steering Committee
on April 19, 2007 and endorsed when reported
to the 36th Anniversary
Planning Committee on April 29, 2007.
