Torah Workshop

Rabbi Menachem Youlus

On Sunday, Jan. 16th, 2005, a group of Fabrangen bar/bat mitzvah-age kids and their parents met at the Jewish Bookstore in Wheaton for a Torah workshop with Rabbi Menachem Youlus. We heard tales of Torah rescues in Eastern Europe, examined different kinds of Torah parchments, traced letters in the special font used for writing a Sefer Torah, and learned how scanners and digital cameras are used to examine and repair Torah scrolls. Definitely a different way of getting close to a Torah from the usual Bar/Bat Mitzvah studies!

A great article about Menachem's work, "Raider of the Lost Arks," appears in the February, 2005 issue of the Washingtonian. Thanks to Rabbi Gilah Langner for arranging this workshop for our Fabrangen children.
