Fabrangen participated again this year in the annual DC JCC December 25 Day of Service. We volunteered at the Father McKenna Center by preparing breakfast and lunch for men in the Drop-In Center, and delivered meals to low-income families in the neighborhood. We also led singing and shared the lunch meal with the men.
The Father McKenna Center — on the campus of Gonzaga College High near Union Station — serves the needs of poor, men, women and children through a variety of programs, such as the Men’s Drop-In Center, drug and alcohol counseling, and feeding the hungry. During the winter months the Center provides a hypothermia unit and hot meals for the homeless.
More than a dozen of us volunteered on Dec 25, including 3 families with their children. Because of our volunteer work, the regular staff were able to celebrate Christmas with their families. We are so grateful to Tom Howarth of the McKenna Center for making this opportunity available to Fabrangen. We encourage donations to support the work of the McKenna Center. For $50, you can help feed 6 men breakfast and lunch. http://www.fathermckennacenter.org/donate.html
