Giving tzedakah (charitable donations) is a long-standing Jewish custom at the High Holidays. We suggest that you consider following this custom in one or more of the following ways:
- Giving to Fabrangen to support our High Holiday programming.
- Giving to one or more of the 2024/5785 Tzedakah Recipients listed below. Every year, Fabrangen selects a few charitable organizations that we recommend for your holiday giving. Bundling the donations increases our impact on the recipient organizations.
For your convenience, the form below allows you to combine giving to one or more of this year’s Tzedakah Recipients and to Fabrangen as well; you can make a contribution in a single PayPal or credit card transaction, or by check.
- Giving to the longstanding Fabrangen Tzedakah Collective allows donors to bundle their contributions and allocate them to a wide variety of charities. Please print out and complete the form at the linked page and make your donation by check. The Fabrangen Tzedakah Collective is not part of Fabrangen itself but was formed many years ago by founding members of Fabrangen.
Fabrangen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization; our EIN is 52-0908641. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowable under the law.
The 2024/5785 Tzedakah Recipients we recommend are:
Fabrangen’s Project Hope
Project Hope offers direct service to families in Washington, D.C., empowering families and individuals to maintain permanent residences, and expand job and educational opportunities. Fabrangeners and friends have been supporting Project Hope since 1988. More information . . .
ID Ministry at Foundry United Methodist Church
At Foundry United Methodist Church, we believe all persons are created in God’s image, the Imago Dei. The ID Ministry at Foundry, run by volunteers, seeks to restore to neighbors in need the documents necessary to obtain jobs, housing, education, or services in the community.
We assist unhoused and low-income residents of Washington, D.C. who need a birth certificate, a D.C. identification card, and/or a replacement Social Security card. We don’t issue those documents ourselves — instead, we provide expertise and financial support toward getting those documents from the government agencies that do.
The TraRon Center
Helping those affected by gun violence heal through the arts.
The TraRon Center offers a comprehensive program of individual and group counseling, therapeutic arts, and programming designed to raise community consciousness about the impact of gun violence. We currently offer two adult programs that meet bi-weekly for 90-minutes each:
- Journaling to Inner Peace where individual reflection, meditation, and journaling help gun violence survivors express their thoughts, feelings, and suppressed reactions to traumatic violence; and,
- Circles of Exhaling which are group sessions (supervised by licensed clinical therapists) where survivors discuss topics that directly and indirectly address their experiences of gun violence.
The survivors in our adult groups shared that their children, extended families, and communities also needed support, so in 2018, The TraRon Center launched an Arts & Healing program for school-aged children via after-school programs and a summer camp. We are also developing a series of training sessions on conflict resolution, emotional intelligence, peer pressure, and leadership for the community-at-large.
Friends of Standing Together
Standing Together is a progressive grassroots movement mobilizing Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel against the occupation and for peace, equality, and social justice. We know that the majority have far more in common than that which sets us apart and only a tiny minority benefits from the status quo. The future that we want — peace and independence for Israelis and Palestinians, full equality for everyone in this land, and true social, economic, and environmental justice — is possible. To achieve this future, we must stand together as a united front: Jewish and Palestinian, secular and religious, Mizrahi and Ashkenazi, rural and urban, and people of all genders and sexual orientations. As the largest Jewish-Arab grassroots movement in Israel, we are committed to creating an alternative to our existing reality and building the political strength to make this transformation possible. Friends of Standing Together supports the Standing Together movement.

Fabrangen Tzedakah Collective
In addition to donating to our 2024 Tzedakah recipients, you can also select from a variety of organizations through the Fabrangen Tzedakah Collective.
The Fabrangen Tzedakah Collective was established in 1975 as an independent forum to democratically involve members in the selection and distribution of funds to charitable organizations. The group meets periodically to study and research recipient groups to which members can allocate their own funds as they choose. Since its inception, the impact of the Fabrangen Tzedakah Collective has been substantial, with over 95 semi-annual allocations, for over $2 million in donations.
